Portraits, Los Angeles, 2017

Amy Victoria is a Los Angeles artist whose passion for music is expressed through portraits of some of her favorite artists/rappers. The Los Angeles suite includes G. Perico, Eric Bellinger and A.D. with more to come. As part of her residence, A.V. will be interviewing her subjects and sharing their personal journeys to success.

"Ice Cube," a portrait by Artist-in-Residence, Amy Victoria, is done and in the studio. Ice Cube, born O'Shea Jackson, is one of the founding artists of gangsta rap, and some, including fellow rapper, Snoop Dogg, rank Ice Cube as the greatest MC of all time. Originally from Baldwin Hills, O'Shea was a part of an extended music-business family and began writing rap in a typing class in ninth grade. He attended Taft High School in Woodland Hills and pursued a career as an architectural draftsman as a backup plan in case his music career didn't succeed. Often seen as controversial, Ice Cube showed a deeply inclusive side when he said in a 2017 interview, "Everyone has something to offer to the world, and to be honest, were not fighting over religions, man. We're fighting over resources. That's just a smokescreen...." For more on Ice Cube visit www.icecube.com. To see the portrait, contact brook@youngangelsofamerica.org.
